How many brick slips per square meter?
As a general guide, you’ll need approximately 60–65 brick slips per square metre to cover a standard wall. This is based on a typical UK-sized brick face (approx. 215mm x 65mm) with standard mortar joints.
To calculate the quantity:
- wall height by length to get the total area in m²
- 60 to get the approximate slip count
- 5–10% extra to allow for cutting, wastage, and edge pieces
Since brick slips are cut from real bricks, sizes may vary slightly between reclaimed and new styles. Always check the slip dimensions listed on the product page before ordering.
You can use our Brick Slip Calculator above to quickly work this out — including adhesive, mortar, spacers and corners if needed.
Do I need Metric or Imperial Bricks?
The difference comes down to size, style, and what you’re matching to.
- Metric brick slips are cut from modern bricks and typically measure 215mm x 65mm. They’re consistent, clean-edged, and ideal for new builds, contemporary interiors, or projects where precision and uniformity matter.
- Imperial brick slips Are cut from larger, older bricks — common sizes include 230mm x 75mm or 228mm x 68mm. These are often handmade or reclaimed, with more variation in tone, surface texture, and shape. They’re perfect for period homes, barn conversions, or feature walls where heritage character is key.
When deciding which type to use:
- Match the size to any Existing brickwork if you're continuing a surface
- Consider whether you want a Uniform finish (metric) or a more rustic, traditional look (imperial)
- Check the Product dimensions on each slip — we always list them clearly so you can plan accurately
