Frequently Asked Questions
Building Stone
How is building stone reclaimed?
How is building stone reclaimed?
Building stone is reclaimed through a meticulous process that involves salvaging materials from buildings and other structures.
The process begins with carefully dismantling these structures to preserve the integrity of the stone. Once removed, the stones are cleaned to remove any mortar, dirt, or debris.
They are then sorted and graded based on their size, type, and quality. This reclaimed stone is often repurposed for new construction projects, providing a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to newly quarried stone
Where does Reclaimed Stone come from?
Where does Reclaimed Stone come from?
Reclaimed stone is sourced from a variety of old structures that are no longer in use, such as buildings and walls. These stones are salvaged during the demolition or renovation of these structures, cleaned, and repurposed for new projects. This process not only preserves the historical and aesthetic value of the stone but also promotes sustainability by reducing the need for new quarrying

How to lay walling stone?
How to lay walling stone?
- Prepare the Foundation: Start by digging a trench about one foot deep and wide enough to accommodate the base stones. This foundation will provide stability for your wall.
- Lay the Base Stones: Place the largest and flattest stones at the bottom of the trench. These stones should be laid snugly and level to form a solid base.
- Build Up Layers: Begin laying stones in layers, working from the bottom up. Each stone should be placed with its length running into the wall, not along it. This helps to tie the wall together and adds strength.
- Fill Gaps: Use smaller stones or rubble to fill any gaps between the larger stones. This helps to lock the stones in place and adds stability.
- Check for Level and Plumb: Regularly check that the stones are level and the wall is plumb (vertically straight). Adjust as necessary to maintain a straight and even wall.
- Add Through Stones: For added stability, place through stones (stones that extend through the entire width of the wall) at regular intervals. These stones help to bind the wall together.
- Cap the Wall: Finish the wall with a layer of cap stones. These larger, flat stones protect the wall from weather and add a finished look.
By following these steps, you can create a strong and attractive wall using reclaimed walling stone.
