London Yellow Brick Slips: Real Character for Real Homes

How These Handmade Slips Transformed One North London Kitchen

When you're planning a kitchen extension, it’s easy to focus on the big structural pieces – bifold doors, Velux windows, maybe an island unit. But more and more homeowners are realising it’s the surface finishes that make the difference between something plain… and something with real atmosphere.

That’s exactly what happened in this North London home, where one customer used our London Yellow Brick Slips to create a warm, character-rich feature wall in their brand new kitchen extension.

A Touch of Tradition in a Light-Filled Space

The space itself is bright, open, and modern — with bifold doors opening onto the garden, and overhead skylights letting in tons of natural light. But without texture on the walls, it risked feeling a bit too clean.

Enter: our London Yellow Brick Slips.

They were used to build a full-height feature wall that anchors the room with historic charm and natural warmth. The subtle variation in tone — from buff and gold through to pale grey — gives the space a lived-in, timeless feel.

“We wanted something that made the space feel more authentic and full of character. These slips were the perfect addition.”
— Homeowner, North London

What Makes These Brick Slips Special?

Our London Yellow Brick Slips are cut from new handmade bricks that have been colour-matched to traditional reclaimed London stocks.

That means they’re:

  • Full of natural variation and soft yellow tones

  • Lightweight and easy to install

  • Perfect for kitchens, living rooms, or anywhere indoors

  • A great choice when full bricks aren’t practical

Unlike reclaimed bricks, they’re also clean-backed and consistent in size — so your tiler or installer has a much easier time fitting them. If you’re doing a DIY install, that makes them even more attractive.

Where They Work Best

These slips work brilliantly across all sorts of projects:

  • Kitchen extensions and open-plan family spaces

  • Chimney breast feature walls

  • Bathroom or utility splashbacks

  • Hallways and stairwells for instant impact

  • Retail or commercial interiors needing a heritage vibe

Because they’re cut from kiln-fired clay bricks, they stand up well to changing temperatures and humidity — perfect for busy family homes.

A Great Alternative to Reclaimed London Stocks

We love reclaimed London yellow stock bricks — and we’ve got plenty in stock for outdoor builds and garden walls. But they aren’t always suitable indoors, especially for slim wall finishes.

That’s where these handmade slips come in. You get the same character and colour palette, but in a lightweight format that doesn’t require major structural work.

Want a Coordinating Look?

Many customers like to match their brick slips with external work using full bricks. If you’re building an extension or new garden wall, we recommend pairing these with:

How Easy Are Brick Slips to Fit?

Much easier than you’d think. You don’t need to be a professional builder to get good results.

Here’s what most customers do:

  1. Apply a flexible tile adhesive to a prepared wall

  2. Press slips into place with spacers for your preferred mortar joint

  3. Once dry, point with mortar or grout for a traditional finish

They go up faster than full brick, with less mess and no extra load-bearing worries.

Tip: If you're going around corners, ask us about corner slips to help create a wraparound, full-brick effect.

Sustainability Notes

Because brick slips are thinner than full bricks, they use less material and reduce waste — both on-site and during manufacturing.

And with these being handmade, small-batch clay bricks, you're also avoiding the emissions of mass-produced machine bricks. It's a subtle but meaningful step toward more low-impact building.
