Transforming a Property with External Brick Slip Cladding
Brick slips are often associated with internal feature walls, but they are equally effective when used as an external cladding solution. This project demonstrates how a full property can be transformed using brick slips to create a consistent, high-quality finish across the entire building.
In this case, the existing external brickwork no longer reflected the desired look of the property. Rather than replacing the structure entirely, the homeowners chose to reclad the exterior using brick slips, allowing them to achieve a completely refreshed appearance while working with the existing building.
A reclaimed-style handmade Cheshire brick slip was selected for the project, chosen for its natural variation in tone and texture, reflecting the character of traditional Cheshire handmade bricks.
This type of finish helps replicate the character of traditional brickwork while offering a cleaner and more controlled aesthetic. The result is a property that feels both updated and in keeping with established architectural styles.
Using brick slips for full house cladding provides a practical alternative to rebuilding or rendering. At approximately 20mm thick, they offer the visual depth of traditional brickwork while remaining lightweight and suitable for installation onto existing substrates. This makes them particularly well suited to refurbishment projects where improving external appearance is a priority.
The installation process can be adapted depending on the structure of the property, with brick slips either fixed directly to prepared surfaces or installed using a cladding system. This flexibility allows for efficient installation while maintaining a high-quality finish across large surface areas.
During the transformation, the difference between the original brickwork and the new cladding became immediately apparent. As the installation progressed, the updated sections began to unify the overall appearance of the property, with the finished result delivering a more cohesive and visually appealing exterior.
This project highlights how brick slips can be used not only for smaller feature areas but also across entire buildings, offering a cost-effective way to improve kerb appeal and extend the visual lifespan of a property.
